HOUSE PRICE INDEXES

  • After five consecutive quarters of decrease, the established homes price index for Western Australia rebounded in June 2009, showing a quarterly increase of 2.7%. The weighted average index for the eight Australian capital cities also turned around, with a 1.5% increase.
  • The project homes index showed a very slight increase in the June quarter (up 0.1%) after a decrease (-0.4%) in the previous quarter.

  • In June 2009, the established home price index for Perth was 3.7% lower than in June 2008, following a March 2008 to March 2009 decrease of 8.4%, the largest annual decrease in the index's six year history.
  • Despite a slight decline in the March quarter, the price index of project homes in June 2009 was 2.4% higher than in June 2008.
