CHANGES IN JULY ISSUE


CHANGES TO STATISTICS PRESENTED ON AN ANZSIC 2006 BASIS

From the July 2009 issue, there will be changes to the industry classification of statistics presented on a recorded trade basis in time series spreadsheets. The changes result from the inclusion of data on an ANZSIC 2006 basis.

The changes to be made to statistics presented on a recorded trade basis include:

• all data for June 2005 and earlier will be presented only according to ANZSIC 1993
• data from July 2005 to June 2009 will be presented according to both ANZSIC 1993 and ANZSIC 2006. These series will continue to be revised according to the ABS revisions policy until December 2009
• from January 2010 no further revisions will be made to data presented on an ANZSIC 1993 basis and at that time, ANZSIC 1993 data will only be available up to the June 2009 reference month. Also from January 2010, from the July 2009 reference period onwards, industry statistics will only be available on an ANZSIC 2006 basis
• time series tables will be added to include data on an ANZSIC 2006 basis:
  • Table 32a Merchandise Exports, Industry (ANZSIC 2006), FOB Value
  • Table 35a Merchandise Imports, Industry (ANZSIC 2006), Customs Value
• time series tables containing data on an ANZSIC 1993 basis will be available in:
  • Table 32b Merchandise Exports, Industry (ANZSIC 1993), FOB Value
  • Table 35b Merchandise Imports, Industry (ANZSIC 1993), Customs Value.

Time series IDs for the new tables are listed on Changes in time series spreadsheets.

These changes in presentation will not change the statistics presented on a Balance of Payments basis nor result in revisions to the total value of goods or services credits and debits.


CHANGES TO STATISTICS PRESENTED ON A COUNTRY BASIS

From the July 2009 issue, there will be changes to the ABS trade country classification which will impact on time series spreadsheets. The changes result from the recognition of new countries by the United Nations and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Three new countries will be added to the time series tables containing all countries:

• French Southern Territories
• Serbia, and
• Montenegro.

The country 'Serbia and Montenegro' will cease. These changes will be backdated to apply from the January 2009 reference month.

Time series affected in this publication are: Tables 14a, 14b, 36a-36j and 37a-37h.

Note that Table 14 of this publication showing data for selected countries on a merchandise trade basis will not be changed.

Changes will also be made to the ABS trade overseas port and ABS trade Australian port classifications, however, there will be no changes to publication tables and time series spreadsheets. Port data are available via tailored user pays consultancies.

Time series IDs for the new countries are not yet available but will be included in Table 1 'New ABS Trade Country Codes' of the above information paper on 18 August 2009. They will also be published in the July 2009 issue of this publication. These changes will not affect the statistics presented on a Balance of Payments basis.
