Overview
In 2011-12, the estimate of cultural expenditure by the Queensland Government was $608.2m or 18% of the cultural expenditure by state and territory governments. This was a rise of 4% from $584.5m in 2010-11. Recurrent expenses accounted for 86% of Queensland Government cultural expenditure. The estimate of per person expenditure by the Queensland Government was $134.60.
In 2011-12, the estimate of expenditure of Queensland Government funds on Heritage activities rose 4% to $464.2m. With the exception of Libraries, all Heritage categories had increased expenditure in 2011-12. The largest contributors to this movement were the categories of Environmental heritage and Archives with increases of $13.1m and $3.4m respectively. Expenditure on Libraries fell 3% to $55.5m.
QLD GOVERNMENT HERITAGE EXPENDITURE
In 2011-12, the estimate of expenditure of Queensland Government funds for Arts activities was $144.0m, a rise of 4% from 2010-11. While the category of Other arts accounted for over half ($74.0m) of Queensland Government expenditure on Arts activities it was not a significant contributor to the upward movement with the level of expenditure remaining stable between 2011-12 and 2010-11. The categories with the largest increases in expenditure were Performing arts venues, Film and video production and distribution and Music theatre and opera with rises of 12% ($2.2m), 78% ($2.2m) and 50% ($1.2m) respectively. Expenditure on Radio and televisions services fell 31% ($2.2m).
