OVERSEAS ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES
The December 2008 issue of Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia, Dec 2008 (cat. no. 3401.0) was released on 6 February 2009. It includes a Feature Article - INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENTS - 2008. The article provides an overview of border crossings in 2008 with a record 23.8 million - translating to 1,112 crossings per 1,000 Australian population (96% of all movements were short-term). It provides an analysis of annual short-term visitor arrivals and short-term resident departures using trend, seasonally adjusted and original estimates. A more detailed examination, based on original estimates, is given on the top 10 source and destination countries for 2008. It also includes an analysis by age, sex, reason for journey and duration of stay/absence.
Revision to November 2008 data
The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) advised that the previous supply of November 2008 data excluded 3,580 arrivals due to passenger cards being mislaid. This represented 0.4% of all arrivals in November 2008. The ABS and DIAC reprocessed November 2008 data and the revised data are released in Overseas Arrivals and Departures, Australia, Dec 2008 (cat. no. 3401.0).
