MALICIOUS PROPERTY DAMAGE

Australian households experienced an estimated 1.2 million incidents of malicious property damage during the 12 months prior to interview. Exterior items, including walls, windows, doors and fences (65%), and cars or other motor vehicles (28%) were the types of property most commonly damaged, defaced or destroyed in the most recent incident.

Of all the states and territories, victimisation rates for malicious property damage were the highest in the Northern Territory (13%), Australian Capital Territory (13%) and Western Australia (12%).
