TRADE IN CULTURAL GOODS OVER TIME
The value of exports of cultural goods has increased since 2002-03 from $576.2m to $585.1m in 2008-09. The product group showing the largest percentage increase in value of exports over this time was Radio and television receivers and apparatus for sound or video recording or reproduction which increased by 33% between 2002-03 and 2008-09. Some of this increase may be due to inflation rather than increases in production. The value of Heritage services exports decreased over this time from $18.8m in 2002-03 to $12.0m in 2008-09, and Audio and video media decreased from $100.2m to $71.0m over the same period.

The value of imports of cultural goods decreased by 2.6% between 2002-03 and 2008-09. The decline was primarily in Audio and video media (down 18%) and Radio and television receivers and apparatus for sound or video recording or reproduction (down 13%). The remaining cultural commodities increased in value over this time. The largest increase in value in imports was for Exposed photographic and cinematographic media, and artistic works, which increased by 47%, followed by Musical instruments and other performing arts equipment (32%). Value in imports for Books, magazines, newspapers and other printed matter increased by 12% and Heritage services increased by almost 9%.
