SUMMARY OF SELECTED ABS RELEASES Environmental Releases Agriculture in Focus: Farmers' Perception of a Change in Climate, 2006-07 (cat. no. 7104.0.55.002) This paper presents an analysis of associations between farmers' perceptions of change to climate and the characteristics of the farmers and/or their businesses. Australian Farming in Brief, 2009 (cat. no. 7106.0) Summary information about agriculture and related statistics, e.g. land use; number and type of farm businesses; estimated value of agricultural operations; livestock numbers; production of crops, fruit, vegetables, meat, other livestock products; gross value of agricultural commodities produced; value of exports; and area of pastures and crops irrigated. Gross value of production data are provided for selected broadacre, fruit (including grapes) and vegetable crops, livestock slaughtering and other disposals, and livestock products. Use of the Internet on Farms, Australia, 2007-08 (cat. no. 8150.0) Provides statistics on farm use of the Internet on a regional basis. The data are sourced from the annual Agricultural Resource Management Survey which included a question on farm use of the Internet. Social Releases National Offence Index, 2009 (cat. no. 1234.0.55.001) The National Offence Index (NOI) is a tool which provides an ordinal ranking of the offence categories in the Australian Standard Offence Classification (ASOC) according to perceived seriousness in order to determine a principal offence for an offender with multiple offences. The NOI has been revised in 2009 and is to be used in conjunction with the second edition of ASOC. Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) Digital Boundaries (Intercensal), Australia, July 2009 (cat. no. 1259.0.30.001) This product contains the digital boundaries current for the ASGC Edition 2009 (date of effect 1 July 2009). The digital boundaries are presented in MapInfo Interchange Format and ESRI Shapefile Format, and are based on the datum GDA94. Research Paper: Assessing the Likely Quality of the Statistical Longitudinal Census Dataset, August 2009 (cat. no. 1351.0.55.026) As part of the Census Data Enhancement project, the Australian Bureau of Statistics has conducted a quality study that simulates the formation of the Statistical Longitudinal Census Dataset (SLCD). This simulation has been carried out by linking 2006 Census and 2006 Census Dress Rehearsal data. This paper describes a variety of methods that have been used to examine the quality of the data linked without name and address and extends those findings to predict the quality that can be expected when the first two waves of the SLCD are linked. First Issue Research Paper: Assessing the Quality of Linking Migrant Settlement Records to Census Data, August 2009 (cat. no. 1351.0.55.027) As part of the Census Data Enhancement project, the Migrants Quality Study was conducted to assess the feasibility of linking the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's Settlement Database (SDB) to the SLCD, without the use of name and address as linking variables. This paper provides some background to the Migrants Quality Study, a brief description of the linking process, a thorough evaluation of the quality of the linked data, and then associated discussion about the usefulness of the linked data. Australian Demographic Statistics, Dec 2008 (cat. no. 3101.0) Australian Demographic Statistics presents quarterly estimates of total population for states, territories and Australia. The publication includes the most recent estimates of the population in five-year age groups; numbers (and some rates) of births, deaths, infant deaths, interstate and overseas movements. Quarterly and/or annual time series tables are provided. Also included are projected resident populations, projected population in households, projected number of households and projected average household size for states, territories and Australia. Population Estimates: concepts, Sources and Methods, 2009 (cat. no. 3228.0.55.001) This publication gives an overview of the range of population estimates produced by the ABS and outlines some of the major uses for these population estimates. The methods and data used to produce population estimates at the national/state and statistical local area levels are covered, as is the method used to produce population estimates fir customised geography. Information is also collected about patterns of attendance at preschool/kindergarten and school, including historical and usual attendance, and frequency of attendance. Recorded Crime - Victims, Australia, 2008 (cat. no. 4510.0) This publication provides a breakdown of the selected offences by: victim characteristics (age and sex); the nature of the incident (weapon use and location); and outcome of police investigations at 30 days. These data are also available by state and territory. The collection also provides for selected state and territories information about the relationship of the offender to victim and the Indigenous status of a victim. Self-employed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, 2006 (cat. no. 4722.0.55.009) This snapshot will describe the characteristics of Indigenous people who indicated they were self-employed in the 2006 Census. Characteristics for analysis will include age, sex, hours worked, income, industry of employment and occupation. Analytical Living Cost Indexes for Selected Australian Household Types, June 2009 (cat. no. 6463.0) This publication presents analytical living cost indexes for selected Australian household types. These price indexes are designed specifically to measure the impact of changes in prices on the out-of-pocket living costs experienced by four household types: Employee households; Age pensioner households; Other government transfer recipient households; and Self-funded retiree households. Household Income and Income Distribution, Australia, 2007-08 (cat. no. 6523.0) Provides estimates of income received by households, classified by various characteristics of the households and their residents. Improvements have been made to the measurements of income presented to incorporate: non-cash benefits provided to employees, termination payments and lump sum workers compensation payments, and to improve the coverage of bonuses and irregular overtime payments and inter-household transfers. Also included. for the first time, summary child care usage and cost information. Legal Services, Australia, 2007-08 (cat. no. 8667.0) This publication provides detailed measures of the performance and structure of legal services businesses/organisations operating in Australia.
