RETAIL TRADE

The April 2008 trend estimate for South Australia's retail turnover was $1,437.7m, while the estimate for Australia was $20,107.1m. From March 2008, the increase in turnover for South Australia across all retail industries was 0.6%, while turnover was unchanged for Australia.

Comparing April 2008 with April 2007, the two South Australian industry groups with the largest percentage increases in retail turnover (trend) were Hospitality and service industries, rising by 20.9% (to $232.8m), and Other retailing, rising by 17.1% (to $143.0m). The South Australian industry group which reported the largest decrease in retail turnover (trend) was Recreational goods retailing, which decreased by 13.6% to $45.5m.

NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES

In April 2008, 3,271 new passenger vehicles and 5,509 new vehicles in total (in trend terms) were sold in South Australia. Corresponding sales for Australia were 52,080 and 89,775.
