HERITAGE

In 2010-11 the estimate of expenditure, funded by the Australian Government, on Heritage activities fell 15% to $593.0m from $699.9m in 2009-10 (Table 2) .

The estimate of expenditure funded by the Australian Government was highest for Other museums and cultural heritage ($219.3m) followed by Environmental heritage ($130.6m).

The estimate for expenditure on Art museums was $75.0m, a fall of 17% from $90.1m in 2009-10.

Expenditure on Libraries fell 9% to $60.3m in 2010-11, however this figure is consistent with the expenditure reported in 2008-09 ($60.2m). It is important to note that this category does not include funding for special libraries (e.g. parliamentary libraries) or libraries in educational institutions such as schools and universities.

The only Heritage category with increased expenditure in 2010-11 was Archives which rose 2% to $107.8m from the $105.6m reported in 2009-10.
