The Personal Fraud Survey found that approximately 80,300 Australians aged 15 years and over were victims of identity theft in the 5 years prior to interview, or 0.5% of the population aged 15 years and over. Around a quarter (26.9%) of all victims of identity theft in the 5 years prior to interview had incurred financial losses as a result of having their personal details stolen.
