EXPENDITURE PER PERSON
In 2010-11, the estimate of expenditure by the three tiers of government averaged $299.80 per person in Australia. This expenditure per person was a decrease on the $302.30 in 2009-10 but an increase on the $294.50 per person in 2008-09. (Tables 2, 4 and 13)
Cultural expenditure funded by the Australian Government in 2010-11 was $102.40 per person which was a fall from $107.40 per person in 2009-10. In 2008-09 expenditure was $106.00 per person. Expenditure in 2010-11 for Heritage activities was $26.70 per person and $75.70 per person for Arts.
The estimate of expenditure by state and territory governments was $140.60 per person in 2010-11, comprising $106.00 per person for Heritage and $34.60 per person for Arts. This was similar to the 2009-10 figure of $140.30 per person. In 2008-09, expenditure by state and territory governments equated to $135.30 per person.
The estimate of expenditure on cultural activities by local government was $56.80 per person in 2010-11, up 4% on 2009-10 and 7% on 2008-09. South Australia ($67.00), Victoria ($64.50) and New South Wales ($57.10) all had local government per person expenditure amounts greater than the average.
