This group covers R&D directed towards climate and climate change. For the purpose of the classification, climate refers to the long term average condition of the weather in a given area.
It includes:

  • climate and climate patterns;
  • strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change, including greenhouse gas sequestration;
  • social impacts of climate change and climate change mitigation strategies;
  • adaptation of ecosystems to climatic changes; and
  • effects of climate change at global and at regional levels in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific region.
This group has twelve objectives:

    960308 Effects of Climate Change and Variability on New Zealand (excl. Social Impacts)
    960309 Effects of Climate Change and Variability on the South Pacific (excl. Australia and New Zealand) (excl. Social Impacts)
    960310 Global Effects of Climate Change and Variability (excl. Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and the South Pacific) (excl. Social Impacts)
    960311 Social Impacts of Climate Change and Variability
    960399 Climate and Climate Change not elsewhere classified

    Exclusions:
    a) Atmosphere and weather, including atmospheric composition, are included in Group 9602 Atmosphere and Weather.
    b) Non-climate related oceanic processes are included in Group 9699 Other Environment.
