MOST SERIOUS OFFENCE/CHARGE
Nearly one third (32% or 2,480) of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners were sentenced/charged for acts intended to cause injury, and a further 15% (1,135) for unlawful entry with intent. Illicit drug offences and acts intended to cause injury were the offences that accounted for the highest proportion of non-Indigenous prisoners (both 15%), followed by sexual assault (13%).
