OVERVIEW

The estimate of cultural expenditure by the Victorian Government rose 8% to $580.4m in 2010-11. This estimate was 19% of the total estimate of state and territory government cultural expenditure. Recurrent expenses accounted for 82% of Victorian Government cultural expenditure. The estimated of per person expenditure by the Victorian Government was $105.60. (Tables 4 and 6)

In 2010-11, the estimate of expenditure of Victorian Government funds on Heritage activities fell 2% to $370.3m. While expenditure on Environmental heritage rose 7%, to $142.7m, this was offset by falls across all other Heritage categories.

The estimate of expenditure of Victorian Government funds in 2010-11 for Arts activities increased 31% to $210.1m. The main driver of this increase was the Performing arts venue category, up $52.0m (184%) from 2009-10. The Arts categories that accounted for three quarters of all Victorian Arts expenditure, funded by the Victorian Government, were Performing arts venues (38%), Film and video production and distribution (21%) and Other arts (15%).
