As at March 2003, there were 1,783 Tasmanians on the Diabetes Register, with 45.5% of these from the Greater Hobart-Southern Region, another 24.1% from the Northern Region, and a further 30.4% from the Mersey-Lyell Region.

Of all Tasmanians on the register, about a third had a diagnostic age of 20 years or less. Diagnostic age is important because anyone diagnosed before 20 years of age would be more likely to have insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
