ALTERNATE SOURCES OF DATA

9.53 Traders and users of international merchandise trade statistics should be aware that, where ABS confidentiality procedures result in a loss of detailed information, there is the possibility that the suppressed data may be available from another source. If the data relate to trade with a particular country, the information may well be published in that country's statistics. The ABS can only confidentialise its own data.

9.54 In cases where commodity detail is suppressed, information that may allow users to estimate the suppressed data may be available from other organisations, such as marketing bodies, trade associations or other government agencies. International organisations, such as the UN, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the OECD, publish a great deal of information on trade classified by country and commodity. However, any data that the ABS supplies to these international organisations conforms with the ABS confidentiality procedures.
