SURVEY CONTENT


This chapter provides information on survey content, in the following topics:

• Population characteristics;
• Language and culture;
• Community strength and social support;
• Social contact, networks and child sports;
• Child events and care;
• Stressors;
• Education;
• Work;
• Health;
• Health risk factors, nutrition and sleep;
• Social and emotional wellbeing;
• Income and finances;
• Housing and mobility;
• Transport;
• Information technology; and
• Safety, law and justice.

Content changes between the 2008 NATSISS and 2014–15 NATSISS were determined following an extensive consultation phase with key stakeholders. Changes include the addition of new content, the removal of some content, and changes to some data items. There were also revisions to some topics to reflect the most recent ABS standards and definitions. Changes and revisions between 2008 and 2014–15 are outlined for each topic under the 'Comparison to the 2008 NATSISS' heading. Where no changes or revisions are highlighted, data can be considered comparable between 2008 and 2014–15.

Expanded CURF users should note that while information relating to survey content applies to both TableBuilder and the Expanded CURF, the CURF has had the following steps taken in order to maintain the confidentiality of survey respondents:

• exclusion of some data items that were collected;
• application of value ranges, collapses, or top-coding to some variables;
• perturbation of dollar values; and
• changes to some demographic characteristics on a number of household and person records.
