COLLECTION METHODOLOGY

After becoming aware of an offence the reporting officer contacts the Information and Communications Technology Command (ICT) by telephone as soon as practicable. A twenty-four hour data entry service exists within ICT to facilitate this process. The offence is then recorded in the Queensland Police Records and Information Management Exchange (QPRIME), classified and counted by the data entry staff.

DEFINITION OF FAMILY AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Family and domestic violence is defined in the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 as behaviour by a person towards another person with whom the first person is in an intimate personal, family, or informal care relationship, that is:
    • physically or sexually abusive; or
    • emotionally or psychologically abusive; or
    • economically abusive; or
    • threatening; or
    • coercive; or
    • in any other way controls or dominates the second person and causes the second person to fear for the second person’s safety or well-being or that of someone else.

Breach Domestic Violence (Family Protection) Act Order/Release ConditionsIncludes Breach of Domestic Violence Order, and/or conditions of the Order (i.e. Breach DVO); Breach of Release Conditions; Breach of a registered interstate Order including conditions and Breach of Police Protection Notice. Excludes Application for Domestic Violence, Restraining Order.

DEFINITION OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE

Sexual Offences are comprised of ‘rape,' 'attempted rape,’ and ‘other sexual offences’:
  • Rape - where any person has carnal knowledge of another person without that person’s consent, or with that persons consent if it is obtained by force, or by means of threats or intimidation, or by exercise of authority, fear of bodily harm, or by false and fraudulent representations as to the nature of the act or by a mistaken belief induced by the accused person that the accused person was the person’s sexual partner.
  • Attempted Rape - a person attempting to have carnal knowledge of another person without that person’s consent.
  • Other sexual offences comprises of Indecent assaults on adults; Indecent treatment of children; Assault with intent to commit rape; Sexual Assault (Other); Unlawful carnal knowledge; Incest; Sexual offences - consent prescribed (other); Bestiality; Indecent Acts; Wilful obscene exposure (Crim. Code); Sexual offences (other) 18 and over; Sexual offences (other) child under 18; and Wilful Obscene Exposure.
