At 30 June 2018:
  • Males accounted for the majority of federal offenders, with at least nine in ten federal prisoners being male and eight in ten federal parolees being male.
  • The majority of federal prisoners (95%) and federal parolees (98%) were non-Indigenous.
  • The median age for federal prisoners ranged from 36.3 years in South Australia to 46.9 years in the Northern Territory, while federal parolees were slightly older, ranging from 39.7 years in Western Australia to 50.7 years in Queensland.
  • New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland accounted for 83% of all federal prisoners. (Table 36)
