At 30 June 2017, across selected states and territories:

• Males accounted for the majority of federal offenders, with at least eight in ten federal prisoners being male and over half of federal parolees being male.
• At least nine in ten federal prisoners and federal parolees were non-Indigenous.
• The median age for federal prisoners ranged from 35 years in the Northern Territory to 44 years in Tasmania, while federal parolees were slightly older, ranging from 42 years in Western Australia to 50 years in the Australian Capital Territory. (Table 36)
• The lowest proportion of Australian born federal prisoners was recorded in Western Australia. (Table 37).
