At 30 June 2014:

• Victoria had the highest proportion of overseas-born prisoners (25% or 1,500 prisoners), followed by New South Wales (23% or 2,445 prisoners). (Table 21)


• Vietnam was the most common country of birth for overseas-born prisoners in Victoria (305 prisoners or 20% of all overseas-born prisoners). (Table 21)


• New Zealand was the most common country of birth for overseas-born prisoners in New South Wales (356 prisoners or 15% of all overseas-born prisoners); Queensland (298 prisoners or 36% of all overseas-born prisoners); the Northern Territory (12 prisoners or 24% of all overseas-born prisoners); and the Australian Capital Territory (9 prisoners or 15%). (Table 21)


• The United Kingdom was the most common country of birth for overseas-born prisoners in South Australia (82 prisoners or 25% of all overseas-born prisoners); Western Australia (185 prisoners or 23% of all overseas-born prisoners); and Tasmania (4 prisoners or 27% of all overseas-born prisoners). (Table 21)
