Federal defendant numbers

In 2012–13, there were a total of 10,454 defendants finalised in Australia's criminal courts with at least one federal offence. This represented a decrease of 4% compared with 2011–12. (Table 1)


Of the total 10,454 federal defendants:

• 90% (9,428) were finalised in the Magistrates' Courts;
• 8% (813) were finalised in the Higher Courts; and
• 2% (213) were finalised in the Children's Courts. (Table 1)
