AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

There was a 23% decrease in the number of sexual assault victims in the Australian Capital Territory, from 237 in 2013 to a five year low of 183 in 2014.

In the Australian Capital Territory during 2014:

• The majority of sexual assault victims were female (89% or 163 victims);
• Persons aged 19 years and under accounted for 44% of all sexual assault victims (81 victims);
• The most common location in which sexual assault occurred was a residential location (59% or 108 victims); and
• Over two in three victims of sexual assault (72% or 132 victims) knew the offender.

There were 162 robbery victims in the Australian Capital Territory in 2014, compared to 161 in 2013.

In the Australian Capital Territory during 2014:

• Three in four person victims of robbery were male (75% or 98 victims); and
• Just under half of all robberies (45% or 73 victims) occurred on the street or footpath, whilst 27% (43 victims) occurred in a retail location.

There was a 7.3% increase in the number of victims of unlawful entry with intent in the Australian Capital Territory, from 2,078 in 2013 to 2,230 in 2014. Property was taken from 67% of all victims (1,497 victims). Just over two in three unlawful entries with intent (69% or 1,531 victims) occurred at a residential location.

There was an 11% increase in the number of motor vehicle theft victims in the Australian Capital Territory, from 676 in 2013 to 752 in 2014. During 2014, motor vehicle thefts were most common at a community location (53% or 396 victims), followed by a residential location (34% or 259 victims).
