AUSTRALIA CAPITAL TERRITORY

There was a 4.4% increase in the number of sexual assault victims in the Australia Capital Territory, from 203 in 2012 to 212 in 2013. In the Australian Capital Territory:

§ The majority of sexual assault victims were female (92% or 190 victims);

§ Persons aged 19 years and under accounted for 56% of all sexual assault victims (115 victims);

§ The most common location in which sexual assault occurred was a residential location (62% or 133 victims); and

§ Nearly two in three victims of sexual assault (64% or 135 victims) knew the offender, with one in four (25% or 52 victims) identifying the offender as a family member.


There was a 32% decrease in the number of robbery victims in the Australian Capital Territory, from 215 in 2012 to a four year low of 147 victims. In the Australian Capital Territory:

§ Just over three in four person victims of robbery were male (78% or 91 victims); and

§ Half of all robberies (51% or 74 victims) occurred on the street or footpath, whilst 36% (52 victims) occurred in a retail location.


There was a 13% decrease in the number of victims of unlawful entry with intent in the Australian Capital Territory, from 2,388 in 2012 to a four year low of 2,069 in 2013. Property was taken from 70% of all victims (1,446 victims), whilst nearly three in four unlawful entries with intent (72% or 1,488 victims) occurred at a residential location.

There was a 30% decrease in the number of motor vehicle thefts in the Australian Capital Territory, from 969 in 2012 to a four year low of 675 in 2013. The most common location for motor vehicle theft to occur was a community location (57% or 381 victims) followed by a residential location (28% or 189 victims).
