It can be applied to a wide range of situations, including research, analysis and policy making contexts, to assist with informed decision making and long term policy planning, and to encourage broad discussion on social issues by governments and within the community The conceptual framework provides researchers and policy makers with a cohesive and holistic structure for determining the current state of wellbeing and social conditions from a wide range of perspectives. It was designed to stimulate discussion on what information is needed for the design and monitoring of better social policies and programs. The statistical framework is a portal which provides a wealth of information and guidance on how to measure a wide range of social statistics concepts. This guide describes how the Frameworks for Australian Social Statistics can be used to: Understand and describe the issue by providing a holistic and structured approach to considering the issue in a wider social context Formulate actions to support wellbeing through a pressure-state-response style framework Monitor and evaluate the action to assist with long term policy planning and performance monitoring In each section, examples are provided, which are intended to be illustrative rather than prescriptive in order for the guide to be applied in a wide range of contexts, and to guide discussion on the type of information that can be used to inform actions. While the guide does not provide a suggested list of indicators or techniques for statistical analysis, several references are provided that may assist readers in these areas.
