Growing numbers of young men and women participating in education

Results from the Survey of Education and Work show that in 2013, 61% of females and 59% of males between the ages of 15 and 24 were participating in education. This reflects a significant increase since 2001, where participation was 56% for both males and females.


More females attaining bachelor degrees

In 2013, 25 to 29 year old females were more likely (41%) to have attained a bachelor degree or higher than their male counterpart (28%). However, there have been significant increases in attainment since 2001 for both females (from 28%) and males (from 22%).






Males were most likely to have completed their highest non-school qualification in Engineering and related technologies (30%), followed by Management and commerce (19%). Females were most likely to have completed their qualification in Management and commerce (29%), followed by Society and culture (20%).
