CANCER (C00-D48)
Cancer (C00-D48) was the underlying cause of one in five deaths (541 or 20.5%) of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons, with a rate ratio of 1.3 deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians for every death of a non-Indigenous person (223.5 per 100,000 compared with 171.4 deaths per 100,000 respectively).
Trachea, bronchus and lung cancers (C33-C34) were the fourth leading cause of death of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians in 2013, with 140 deaths. The sex ratio for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who died from Trachea, bronchus and lung cancers (C33-C34) in 2013 was 84.2 males per 100 females. Deaths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians from Trachea, bronchus and lung cancers occurred at a rate of 1.8 times than the rate for non-Indigenous Australians (55.7 per 100,000 compared to 31.3 per 100,000).
