The Essential Statistical Assets (ESA) for Australia initiative aims to identify the essential statistical assets critical to decision-making across Australian governments. Phase 1 of ESA culminated in the release of the 2013 ESA list. Phase 2 of ESA aims to assess the quality of the statistical assets identified on the 2013 list. This publication presents the results from the quality assessment process which provides for a more in-depth consideration of how well the currently produced information meets the critical needs of users. The quality assessment process of Phase 2 of ESA produced overarching indicators of quality for each of the 71 essential statistics currently on the 2013 list. While there were 74 essential statistics on the ESA list, there were statistic assessment results for only 71 essential statistics as three essential statistics were identified as data gaps.
