Definition of Family and Domestic Violence Family and Domestic Violence is defined by the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 1989. Behaviours include threatened or actual wilful injury, wilful damage to the other person’s property (including pets), intimidation or harassment of the other person and indecent behaviour towards the other person without consent, where the two parties are in a domestic relationship. Behaviours do not need to be committed directly by the person committing the Domestic Violence. Under Queensland law, a “domestic relationship” is a spousal relationship; an intimate personal relationship; a family relationship; or an informal care relationship. Collection methodology After becoming aware of an offence the reporting officer contacts the Information and Communications Technology Command (ICT) by telephone as soon as practicable. A twenty-four hour data entry service exists within ICT to facilitate this process. The offence is then recorded in QPRIME, classified and counted by the data entry staff. This process provides the benefits of reducing police officers’ administrative workloads as well as providing an accurate and immediate computerised record of crimes. Other details: Crime reports recorded between December 1994 and June 2007 have been converted from Crime Recording Information System for Police (CRISP) to QPRIME. Prior to December 1994 crime reports were derived from data entered into the crime statistics database maintained by the Statistics Section of the former Information Management Bureau (and its precursors).
