TYPE OF ACCESS CONNECTION Internet Service Providers (ISPs) were asked to report subscriber numbers by type of access connection as at 31 December 2013. There were 12,397,000 internet subscribers in Australia at the end of December 2013. This is an increase of 2% from the same time in the previous year. As at 31 December 2013, over 98% of internet connections were broadband. The number of dial-up internet connections continued to decline. However, the number of mobile wireless broadband connections in Australia, increased by 1% since the end of December 2012 and mobile wireless broadband continued to account for half of all internet connections. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) connections increased by 4% between December 2012 and December 2013 from 4.7 to 4.9 million connections.
