Collection methodology Hospitals provide monthly extracts of data on patients discharged from hospital to a central database managed by SA Health. Demographic data is collected by administrative staff in hospitals. Doctors and nurses record information on diagnoses and procedures as text in medical records. The text is translated into codes, and the codes are included in the monthly extracts.Scope / target population All people admitted to public and private hospitals in South Australia. Coverage Clinicians may not identify injuries as family and domestic violence related unless there is clear evidence, so the number of family and domestic violence related hospital admissions is likely to be understated in this collection. Geographic coverage and disaggregation South Australia. Postcode recorded.
