VICTORIA There were 90 victims of homicide recorded in Victoria in 2012, of whom 67% (60) were male. Victims of homicide in Victoria knew their offender in 67% (60) of cases, with 14% (13) being victimised by a partner. Murder victims accounted for 48% (43) of total homicide victims in Victoria, and the largest proportion of these victims experienced victimisation at a residential location (65% or 26 victims). A knife was the weapon that was most commonly used (27% or 12 victims). There were 3,889 victims of sexual assault recorded in Victoria in 2012. More than four in five sexual assault victims (85% or 3,311 victims) were female. Among all victims of sexual assault, 26% (1,021) were victimised by a family member, of which 6% (233) were victimised by a partner. The most common location for sexual assault victimisation was a residential location (61% or 2,383 victims). Victimisation occurred at a community location in 21% (807) of incidents. In 2012, there were 47,443 victims of unlawful entry with intent, and 13, 613 victims of motor vehicle theft recorded in Victoria. Victims of both these offence types have increased (8% and 11% respectively) in Victoria since 2011.
