INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents statistics about incidents of assault victimisation that were recorded by state and territory police during the period of 1 January 2012 to 31 December 2012. These statistics provide information about the characteristics of recorded victims of assault and the nature of these criminal incidents. Assault data presented in this chapter are only available for New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory for more information see Explanatory Notes paragraphs 36-47.
