MEAT CATTLE In 2010, the total number of meat cattle in Australia was 24 million, down from the historical high of 29.3 million in 1976. A similar pattern to the Australian total can be seen across all the states with the exception of Queensland, where total meat cattle numbers peaked at 12.2 million in 2009.
