Income from transport services, totalling $11.1b, represented 78.8% of Total income and consisted mainly of $5.6b from Rail freight transport services and $5.1b from Rail passenger transport services. Income from other services of $1.8b accounted for 12.4% of Total income.

Total rail transport running expenses of $3.8b accounted for 28.2% of Total expenses, Labour costs of $4.0b accounted for 29.6% and Other expenses of $4.8b for a further 35.6%.
The Rail Transport industry subdivision undertook Total capital expenditure of $3.8b during the 2010-11 financial year, of which Capital expenditure on other transport vehicles and equipment (excluding road vehicles) accounted for $1.3b.
