TOTAL CATTLE In 2010, the total number of cattle in Australia was 26.6 million. This was down from the high of 31.8 million in 1976. A similar pattern to the Australian total can be seen across all the states with the exception of Queensland. In Queensland, total cattle numbers peaked at 12.3 million in 2009.
