SOUTH AUSTRALIA In 2011, there were 58 victims of homicide in South Australia of whom 78% were male and 22% female. Victims of homicide knew their offender in 66% of cases, with 6.9% being victimised by a partner. There were 1,354 victims of sexual assault of whom 1,143 (84%) were female. Both 29% of male and female victims of sexual assault were victimised by a family member whereas 17% of male victims of sexual assault were victimised by a stranger, while 22% of female victims of sexual assault were victimised by a stranger. Among non-Indigenous victims of sexual assault, 29% were victimised by a family member, compared with 32% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims. In 2011, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in South Australia were victims of sexual assault at more than four times the rate of non-Indigenous persons (306 victims per 100,000 persons compared to 75 victims per 100,000 persons). There were 836 person victims of robbery in South Australia of whom 72% were male. Almost 90% of robbery victims reported that the offender was a stranger.
