115,000 businesses reported agriculture as their main activity in 2012-13. This represents a 5% decrease compared to 2011-12.
The beef cattle farming industry remained the largest sector in 2012-13, comprising 34% of businesses classified to the agriculture industry. Sheep farming, mixed farming (grain-sheep/grain-beef cattle) and other grain growing represented the next largest sectors, with each accounting for 10% of businesses in the agriculture industry.
The number of non-agricultural businesses that undertook agricultural operations as a secondary activity during 2012-13 decreased by 5% to 13,900 businesses.
