The Agricultural Land and Water Ownership Survey (ALWOS)

The Agricultural Land and Water Ownership Survey (ALWOS) will be conducted in August/September 2013.

ALWOS is being undertaken to address the lack of information available on foreign ownership of Australian agricultural resources.


The survey which was first run in 2011, will collect information about:

• ownership of agricultural land

• ownership of agricultural businesses

• water entitlements for agricultural purposes in Australia

Results will be released in early 2014.

Rural Environment and Agricultural Commodities Survey (REACS)

The Rural Environment and Agricultural Commodities Survey (REACS) for the year ended 30 June 2013 will be despatched from the end of June 2013.

The survey will collect information about commodity production and land management practices, and it is planned that the data will be collected primarily via e-forms.

The information will be used by agricultural departments and other government agencies to inform rural environment and agricultural policy. The results will also be used in the compilation of National Accounts and will inform decision-making by agriculture industry groups and the wider community.


The survey will collect data on:

• broadacre crops

• livestock

• horticultural products

• hay and silage

• crop and pasture management

• irrigation

• water use

• farm management

Preliminary estimates will be released later in 2013, with final results coming out in early 2014.
