Information about water use on Australian farms was collected by the ABS as part of the 2011-12 Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS).


On 31 May 2013, the ABS released a publication called Water Use on Australian Farms, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4618.0).


The publication contains estimates of:
  • agricultural water use
  • irrigation activity
  • pastures and crops irrigated
  • sources of agricultural water


As well as ABS data, the publication also includes a Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) analysis of Australia's climate in 2011-12.


Geographies available
  • all states, territories and Australia
  • Murray-Darling Basin and Non-Murray-Darling Basin
  • Data at sub-state geographies such as Natural Resource Management (NRM) regions and Statistical Area 4 (SA4) of the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) will be released later in 2013
