ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER VICTIMS In 2011, 6.8% (4,864) of victims of assault in New South Wales identified as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons accounted for 4.4% (1,728) of male assault victims and 9.9% (3,133) of female assault victims. In 2011, 12% (1,887) of victims of assault in South Australia identified as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander persons accounted for 6.2% (535) of male assault victims and 18% (1,352) of female assault victims. In 2011, 68% (4,546) of victims of assault in the Northern Territory identified as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin, with 44% (1,017) of male assault victims identified as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin and 82% (3,529) of female assault victims.
