TYPE OF ACCESS CONNECTION Internet Service Providers (ISPs) were asked to report subscriber numbers by type of access connection as at 30 June 2012. There were 12.0 million internet subscribers in Australia at the end of June 2012. This represents an increase of 4% since the end of December 2011 and an annual growth of 10%. The proportion of internet connections that were dial-up continued to decline, with over 96% of internet connections at 30 June 2012 reported as broadband. Footnote(s): For ISPs with more than 1,000 subscribers Source(s): 8153.0 - Internet Activity, Australia At 30 June 2012, there were 5.9 million mobile wireless broadband connections in Australia, an increase of 7% since the end of December 2011. Mobile wireless broadband was again the most prevalent internet technology in Australia, accounting for 49% of all connections. Note these data exclude mobile handsets. Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) connections increased by 2% from the end of December 2011, to 4.6 million connections as at 30 June 2012. Fibre connections increased from 37,000 to 52,000 over the same period.
