ROBBERY
Robbery is an act of stealing (or attempting to steal) property from a person by physically attacking them or threatening them with force or violence. Robbery includes incidents of physical assault and threatened assault which also involved robbery or attempted robbery. It also includes incidents where the person was threatened in their line of work. It excludes pick pocketing or other types of theft that did not involve physical or threatened violence. Victims of robbery are also counted in the physical and threatened assault modules, depending on whether they were actually assaulted or threatened with assault.
During the 12 months prior to interview in 2011–12, there were an estimated 188,600 incidents of robbery, experienced by 66,400 Australians aged 15 years and over (0.4%). Around half (52%) of all victims of robbery had the most recent incident they experienced reported to the police.
