CULTURAL FUNDING BY GOVERNMENT Total cultural expenditure funded by the Victorian Government has fluctuated over the last five years. The level of expenditure was similar in 2007-08 and 2008-09 but fell 11% to $537.6m in 2009-10, the lowest level of expenditure over the five years. The 2011-12 estimate of expenditure was $639.8m a rise of 19% from 2009-10. GOVERNMENT CULTURAL EXPENDITURE, Vic. The estimate of expenditure of Victorian Government funds on Heritage activities increased from $370.3m in 2010-11 to $405.1m in 2011-12, an increase of 9%. The main category responsible for this movement was Environmental heritage with a rise of 23% ($32.9m) of which $31.2m was an increase in capital expenditure. By comparison, expenditure in all other Heritage categories remained relatively stable. GOVERNMENT HERITAGE EXPENDITURE, Vic. In 2011-12 the estimate of expenditure of Victorian Government funds for Arts activities increased by 12% to $234.7m. The main drivers of this increase were the categories of Performing arts venues and Other performing arts, with increases of 26% ($21.1m) and 51% ($5.9m) respectively.
