CHANGES IN THE PRISONER POPULATION The total prisoner population increased by 5% (from 29,381 on 30 June 2012 to 30,775 on 30 June 2013). Between the 2012 and 2013 Prisoner Census dates: the number of male prisoners increased by 5% (1,244) and the number of female prisoners increased by 7% (150) the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners increased by 6% (449) the number of sentenced prisoners increased by 4% (825) and the number of unsentenced prisoners increased by 7% (503).
