Sex and age

Males continued to account for the majority of defendants, making up 77% of the All Courts population (432,994 defendants). (Table 1)

Between 2011–12 and 2012–13, the number of defendants decreased for both males and females, by 2% and 1% respectively. (Table 2)

During 2012–13, three-fifths (60%) of all defendants were aged under 35 years. Defendants aged under 35 years accounted for 61% of all male defendants, compared to 57% of female defendants. (Table 4)
