Time spent on scoial activities TIME SPENT ON SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

The Time Use Survey, 2006 provides an insight into how people with disability spent their time relative to people with out disability.

People with core activity limitations spent less time each day on average participating in social and community interaction activities than people without disabilities. The difference of 7 minutes a day for those aged 15 to 64 years, extended out to 9 minutes for those aged 65 years and over (see Graph 19).

People aged 15 to 64 years with core activity limitations spent more time on average on recreation and leisure activities (4 hours 57 minutes), compared to people without disability (3 hours 39 minutes). Recreation and leisure activities took a greater role in the lives of those with core activity limitations aged 65 years or more however, with an average of 6 hours 29 minutes a day spent on these activities, compared to 5 hours 39 minutes a day for people aged 65 years or more without a disability.
