SCHOOL EDUCATION
There are differing degrees of intellectual disability; however difficulty with academic learning is common to many (Endnote 5). In 2012, one-quarter (25%) of those with intellectual disability aged 18 years or over had completed Year 12 or equivalent, compared with 28% of people with other types of disability and 59% of people without a disability.
Children with intellectual disability who have a schooling restriction may receive a range of support options. In 2012, many people with intellectual disability who had a schooling restriction reported receiving educational support such as tuition (82%). Around half of children with intellectual disability received special tuition (49%) and one in five were attending a special school (20%).
