In 2009-10 there were 79.7 million litres of pure alcohol available from beer, which is a decrease of 1.7% from 2008–09 (81.1 million litres). Full strength beer made up 82.4% of all beer available for consumption in 2009-10, followed by mid strength beer (12.7%) and low strength beer (4.9%).
Over the past 6 years, the amount of alcohol available for consumption from low strength beer has decreased 37.3% (from 6.2 million litres in 2004–05 to 3.9 million litres in 2009-10), while mid and full strength beer has increased (Table 2).

The volume of beer available for consumption decreased slightly, from 1,872.8 million litres in 2008–09 to 1,853.6 million litres in 2009–10. The volume of full strength beer decreased 1.0%, while mid strength beer increased 2.8%. Low strength beer also decreased by 7.8% (Table 3).
