The Schools Census, 2009
The results of the 2009 Expansion of the National Schools Statistics Collection (NSSC) were published on 16th March 2010. Data is collected annually on Census Day (the first Friday of August) and is conducted across all Australian states and territories covering data on schools, students and staff. Information details:

• apparent retention rates and participation rates of students;
• teaching staff to student ratios; and includes
• an appendix on the Collection of Indigenous Status of Students, outlining data collection methods of Indigenous status in each state and territory.

Survey of Education and Work
Release of the Survey of Education and Work (SEW) for 2010 is currently planned for late November 2010. Release of the SEW Detailed Education Datacubes is planned for the same day. In addition to the current datacubes, NCETS are currently developing two additional ones - attainment at Year 12 or Certificate III level, and one focussing on indicators in the COAG National Education Agreement and National Agreement on Skills and Workforce Development.

The full range of datacubes will now be:

• Persons with attainment at Year 12 or Certificate II level or above
• Persons with attainment at Year 12 or Certificate III level or above
• Persons with attainment at Certificate II level or above
• Persons with attainment at Certificate III level or above
• Persons with attainment of non-school qualifications
• Persons aged 15-24 years, who are fully engaged in education or training and/or work (by single year of age)
• Persons who are fully engaged in education or training and/or work
• Persons who are enrolled at Certificate III level or above
• Persons who are enrolled (all study)
• COAG Indicators

Review of Education and Training Survey Content
Over the next 12 months, NCETS will be conducting a review of the education and training survey program. The aim of this review is to ensure that data collected through ABS collection vehicles remains timely, consistent and relevant and to assist with meeting the data needs of the future.

The Survey of Education and Training (SET) is a study conducted every four years, and contains information on income and disability, along with detailed information on qualifications. The survey maintains a strong focus on the level of participation, educational attainment, and both individual experiences of, and outcomes from, education and training activities. The most recent instalment was published on 30th March 2010.
